Mom blog: Happy Halloween and boo to you!

Boo!!

I know it’s Halloween because yesterday I got a special advance invitation to sign up for a visit to SANTA, but hurry up! because they’re going fast!

Good grief, Charlie Brown.

We did a driving tour of the coolest decorated houses within 10 minutes of our house last night. I got to tell my six-year-old all about The Great Pumpkin,
and how he flies through the night to bring candy to all the little children of the world. He was skeptical, to say the least.

Today he is the Human Torch. My 14-year-old will be Batman for two blocks because he bought the costume last year and the padding makes him look like Charles Atlas; then he’ll switch to his second costume, a hippie (no, son, mummy was not a hippie, thanks for the vote of confidence there). My 16-year-old dancer daughter is going out as a thousand-dollar dancer (the dollar figure refers to the value of the pieces of dance costumes she is pulling together and wearing—pink wig, rhinestone fishnet top, some Spandex and tulle and sequinned things, all of them representing a chorus line of tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, modern and musical theatre classes, rehearsals, competitions and performances through the years). She’s taking her little brother out trick or treating and then coming home immediately and getting dressed. In flannels.

I will be the mum behind the door hung with skeletons, trying not to eat the Mars bars until the the little monsters thin out and mine come home.

Happy Halloween!
